Founded by Peter Buchanan – a former business development and marketing executive with GE, Deloitte & Touche, and BT – NewPlan concentrates on improving the performance of your company in the marketplace and your team on a daily basis. Biographies of key NewPlan executives follow.

Peter Buchanan
Managing Partner

Peter BuchananPeter has developed strategies, business models, fundable business plans, and successful market messages that have been implemented by dozens of technology-driven companies. He has also been the strategic advisor at the CEO and Board level to numerous companies in multiple vertical markets, including: telecommunications, applications development tools, enterprise software, security, business intelligence, IT Services, and eBusiness applications. Over 80 percent of Peter’s business planning clients have executed a successful funding, sale, or spin-out transaction. In total, Mr. Buchanan's clients have raised over $250 million based on his work.

Larger clients have included global and regional market leaders like CACI, Intel, iGov, Telus, Telecom New Zealand, and BCE Emergis. In addition, Peter has advised more than 100 start-up, growth and middle market companies that have gained significant market traction, including Avatech Solutions, Cyclone Commerce, Mobile Posse, Acceller, Bridgeborn, BuildTopia, Dynamic Technology Systems (now VidSys), Digital Sports, AVIcode, IQS, and iDEFENSE.

Peter has spent over 25 years in the high technology sector and has served in senior strategy, marketing, sales, and business development positions at Chessiecap, Operon Partners, Deloitte & Touche, GE Information Services (now Global Exchange Services), British Telecom, and FileTek. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a BA in History.

 

Catherine Yandel
Managing Partner

Catherine YandelCatherine Yandel specializes in strategic planning and organizational performance drawing on her executive level experience in several management and technology consulting firms. She is adept at developing management approaches for new business ventures, leading organizational change, and mentoring management teams. An experienced executive level consultant, Cathy has held numerous general management and executive positions herself. Her core skills include:

 Strategic and business planning
 Business performance
 Enterprise architecture
 Team and human capital development.

Cathy was part of the founding team at BTG and was instrumental in BTG’s rapid growth to over $500 million in revenues. She was General Manager a business unit that created advanced applications for the US Intelligence community and then launched a highly successful commercial Internet services business unit. After BTG, Cathy served as the Chief Operation Officer for e-Biz – a high-growth technology consulting firm that was successfully sold to an Application Service Provider. She then served as Director of Corporate Development concentrating on M&A and strategy initiatives for Robbins-Gioia – a fast-growing management consulting firm servicing commercial and federal organizations.

Ms. Yandel has an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania and a BS, Computer Science, Pennsylvania State University.


Blake Allison
Partner

Blake AllisonBlake Allison has a depth of both operational and management consulting experience in developing winning business strategies, results-driven marketing programs, highly-effective business development initiatives, and innovative partnership programs for new business ventures as well as Fortune 500 companies.

Prior to joining NewPlan, Blake held management positions in the strategy group of several technology and strategy consulting firms, and founded his own business advisory firm - SAI Group, LLC – in 2005. He has worked with numerous companies in the Americas, Europe, and Asia including: 3M Corporation, Intel Corporation, IFCO Systems (Germany), Washington Mutual Bank, and European Housing Finance (Turkey).

Blake also was with the Technology and Telecommunications group of Arthur Andersen and focused on strategic business development. He later joined an Andersen partner, who formed a real estate investment trust (REIT), as Director of Marketing and Investor Relations. The REIT went public four months later and within 20 months had invested more than $1 Billion in assets. Blake was instrumental to the company’s go-to-market success, brand development, and investor relations.

Blake has an MBA from The College of William & Mary; and a BBA, Finance, James Madison University.

 

Horace C. Martin
Managing Partner

Horace C. MartinHorace Martin is a world-class expert in strategy development, partnership management, and transactions. He is a published author, founder of a successful eBusiness consultancy, and founder of uStyleIt, an online resource for executives that need quick advice on executing any type of transaction.

Prior to uStyleIt, Mr. Martin served as the head of strategy for QRS – a leading provider of eCommerce transaction services to the retail industry. He also founded Operon Partners, a fast-growing eBusiness consultancy that placed number four in the Washington Post Fast 50 in 2001.

Mr. Martin has worked for such blue-chip companies as GE, AT&T, and Southern New England Telephone. He has completed assignments in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Key executive positions held over the duration of his career include Business Unit President, Vice President of Business Development, Vice President of Strategic Planning, Vice President of Mergers and Acquisitions, CFO, Director of Sales & Marketing, Operations General Manager, and Director of Government Relations. He has also consulted with both large and small companies in the high technology industry including Toshiba America Information Systems Computer Systems Division, Netscape, Bell Canada, Telecom New Zealand, and Gateway Computer. Horace played the lead role in the creation of the ground breaking joint venture, Actra LLC, between GE Information Services (GEIS) and Netscape Communications, which focused on the business-to-business electronic commerce markets on the Internet.

Mr. Martin holds both a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree in finance and operations management and a Masters of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University. He is the author of Multimedia Market Trends (1995 and 1996), an analysis and forecast of the future for the converging communications, computing, content, and consumer electronics industries, and Breakout Deals Can Be Game Changers: the ABCs of Mergers, Acquisitions, Divestitures, and Strategic Alliances.

 

W. Travis Good
Entrepreneur-in-Residence

W. Travis GoodMr. Good brings deep expertise in product management, product launch, operations, and enterprise sales to NewPlan. He has managed the launch and growth of major products and corporate divisions and rapidly scaled operations to meet unprecedented levels of customer demand.

From 2000 to 2006, Mr. Good served as Vice President of Technology and Operations at AOL Latin America, where he led the development of Latin America-specific content and technology capabilities and the scaling of operations to serve increasing consumer demand. From 1995 to 1999, he held a variety of management positions at AOL, including Vice President of AOL International, Director of Client Software Product Marketing, and Director of Global Network Navigator. He served as the product manager for AOL’s front-end software products and supervised three major upgrades in functionality as AOL expanded from 3 million to 25 million subscribers. He was also instrumental in broad roll-out AOL’s initial content directory service called Global Network Navigator (GNN), which was a precursor to large consumer portal and search sites, such as Yahoo and Google.

From 1987 to 1995, Mr. Good served in sales and management positions at GE Information Services, including General Manager of its operations in Mexico. Previous to that, he was with Citicorp for four years.

Mr. Good earned an International MBA from the Garvin School of International Management (Thunderbird), a BS in Industrial Engineering and a BS in Finance from Oregon State University.
